Strive to avoid sin: Bishop Mutendi

Christopher Man’ombe

The head of the Zion Christian Church Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi has urged church members to avoid sin.

“Jesus was crucified in order to cleanse us of our sins, but this favour does not come automatically. We first have to confess our sins, to pray and, above all, to stop sinning,” said the Bishop.

He said that the most important thing for Christians is to avoid sin. He emphasized that people cannot wish away sin, but instead, must wholeheartedly strive to stop it.

“One cannot just tell sin to go away but must make every effort to stop it. We must wash ourselves of sin the way we wash our hands thoroughly to prevent the spread of the coronavirus,” he said.

Bishop Mutendi stressed that those who remain members of the church are so not by coincidence but by God’s design, adding that they have been chosen for a purpose – to be part of a rescue team for the world.

“Christ has risen, and we are now allowed to worship in groups of 50. We are not the remnants by coincidence, but by design. God knew that after the advent of coronavirus, a lot of Christians would backslide and fall by the wayside,” he added.

He advised those who have remained steadfast to humble themselves, and to remember that Jesus remembered them, like he did Peter, so their faith should not fail – Luke 22 vs. 31.

He challenged members of the church to be carriers of ZCC faith, carriers of the word of God from Jerusalem to the uttermost parts of the world. He likened the word of God and religious statutes to goodie hampers that must be taken to the people.

“Every Region, Centre, Greater, Nyika, Tabhera and Cell in the church must have people who are like the biblical daughters of thunder.

“The church depends on members who work to spread the heavenly kingdom, people who share the Word from Jerusalem, people who sing songs about Jerusalem, and people whose prophecies are from Jerusalem,” said Bishop Mutendi.

He challenged the congregants to prove that they are still effective members of the church by teaching people what is good and things that help them.

He also urged the church members to go and strengthen their falling relatives, friends, colleagues and other members of society.
