Adopt a culture of writing: Bishop Mutendi urges ZCC youths

By Zimano Aaron-Mujuru

The new normal that has come about because of the current Covid-19 restrictions has opened a new chapter for the Zion Christian Church (ZCC) fraternity, with His Grace Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi challenging youth in the church to write about the teachings they receive from ongoing online sermons.

The Servant of God has set the pace by embarking on a project to write a book to be titled, “Zvirevo ZvaNehemiah”, or the Proverbs according to Nehemiah.

Calling for youths to be writers, he cited the book of Habakkuk 2 vs. 2-3 that says, “And the Lord answered me: Write the vision, and make it plain on tablets, that he who reads it may run.”

He said when the vision is written down and then implemented, people can run with it and they will succeed.

Bishop Mutendi also reminded youths of Revelations 1 vs. 3, which pronounces how those who read the word of God attract blessings.

He explained that a person who not only reads the word of God but also becomes a scribe of its holy teachings is guaranteed greater blessings.

According to the Man of God, committing to and meditating on the word of God develops in one the DNA of Christ, which gives the strength to triumph and conquer evil.

Bishop Mutendi pointed out that the kind of gospel prophecy he focuses on differs from many scholarly books and news articles whose main purpose is to entertain and attract readership, without needing to be righteous.

He challenged the youths to always rely on biblical truth and the church’s devotional publication, Tabakoni, ahead of all other sources of knowledge.

The Servant of God also referred to Jeremiah’s prophecies, which were based on clear records.

Likewise, he said, to be considered as messages from God, all prophecy at Zion Christian Church should be documented.

He said back in 1976 when Rev Samuel Mutendi died and an illuminating star was seen in the night sky three days after his death, as prophesied, those outside the church misinterpreted the incident and wrote many stories not based on fact.

He emphasized that by writing we tell our own stories, which makes it mandatory for the youth in ZCC to begin telling the true story of Zion to avoid further misinformation.

These sentiments by Bishop Mutendi are, indeed, a wakeup call to the youth in the church to start writing.
