Teach your children Zion culture

By Evidence Muteura

The leader of Zion Christian Church Bishop Dr Nehemiah Mutendi has challenged ZCC parents to plant, nourish and maintain church culture in their children.

He made the remarks while addressing ZCC women in a sermon broadcast from Mbungo Estates on Wednesday last week.

Wednesday is a day dedicated to women’s prayer in the church. Although the sermons traditionally address women audiences, they are open to everyone on social media platforms.

“Zion Culture must be planted, watered and maintained because it can be forgotten from one generation to another,” the Bishop said.

He told women in the church that they can only achieve this through teaching and explaining the church’s core values and statutes to their children.

Bishop Mutendi said although the Israelites stayed as slaves in Egypt for 400 years, parents continued to teach their young about their God of Israel. This helped to keep the Israelite culture intact to succeeding generations.

“There was no Jewish school in Egypt, neither a synagogue nor a church for about 400 years but the children of Israel never forgot their culture as they were always taught by their mothers and fathers,” said the Bishop.

Bishop Mutendi also urged the children of Zion to emulate Daniel and his friends Shadreck, Mishek and Abednego who stayed true to their God under difficult circumstances.

He said although the four Israeli boys received special treatment from the King, they never deviated.

They never ate what they were taught not to eat, they never bowed to the gods worshiped in Babylon and they chose to continue worshipping their Lord, the God of Israel.
